You are celebrating 20 years with SMPS!! Why have you remained a member?
SMPS was the first organization that launched me into my career. I knew nothing about the industry but quickly learned this organization was my stepping stone into an extremely interesting and exciting business world. I could not believe there was actually an organization with people that did what I did and really cared to help. Still to this day, SMPS is still there to help mentor and educate all – love it!

If you could go back 20 years to your first day with SMPS and share a piece of wisdom you have learned, what would you tell yourself?
Embrace networking and build even more relationships.

How has SMPS contributed to your success as a marketing and business development professional?
It has offered countless opportunities to connect with clients, potential clients and people within the industry to develop long term relationships throughout the nation. It has given me access to educational opportunities through the local chapter, regional conferences and national conferences to help hone my skills and keep me in tune with current trends and industry standards. More importantly, it has helped me develop deep strong friendships with cream of the crop business developers that helped shape who I am and keep me reaching for higher goals.

To which project are you most proud of having contributed?
The creation and development of the marketing departments for both JQ and RVK.

What drew you to the AEC industry?
My night gig at IRS in Austin was over and a friend called me to offer me a job at an engineering firm doing accounts payable. Of all things when I did not like numbers, yes IRS was numbers too but I had day classes to attend and it paid the bills but I digress. I took the job and loved the industry even from behind the calculator. Luckily after six months, the marketing person left on an extended vacation and I naturally fit in. Since then I propelled into this industry learning all I could and meeting as many people as possible. I continue to love the industry and all of the outstanding people I have met along the way. .

Where’s your favorite place to eat in San Antonio?
Two Bros BBQ

Where are you originally from?
Austin

What would be impossible for you to give up?
In the industry, the numerous friends I have made and in my personal life, visits to see my mom and family as well as my pup, Biscuit.
