The Leonardo Award

Inspired by the Renaissance inventor, writer, painter, and sculptor, Leonardo Davinci, the SMPS San Antonio chapter will present the 2026 Leonardo Award to a current member who has demonstrated excellence in marketing creativity and innovation as it relates to the built environment. Nominees are currently being sought, and the winner will be announced at the 2026 Evening of Excellence.

2025 Recipient

Joyce Watson, CPSM, Principal | Marketing, Cleary Zimmermann Engineers

As Principal of Marketing, and the first non-technical Principal in Cleary Zimmermann Engineers' history, Joyce Watson leads firmwide marketing strategy, brand management, and corporate communications with a focus on telling the firm’s story across all platforms. A former Teach for America Corps member, Joyce brings a methodical, research-driven approach paired with her natural ability to build rapport with clients and peers. Under her leadership, Higher Education bookings increased by 548%, the firm’s HUB partner’s revenue grew by 1100%, and CZ became the first A/E/C firm to go “viral.” A five-time MCA winner, including a national award, Joyce has presented five times at the last three SMPS Southern Regional Conferences and led 20 educational sessions on CRM and leadership. Her active involvement in SMPS includes helping increase SMPS San Antonio membership by 24% and being named Board Member of the Year in 2020. Joyce holds a BA in History from USC, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, and is a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM).

Who can apply?

Nominees should meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum ten years of marketing and/or business development experience, including five years specific to the A/E/C industry.
  • Applicant must be a past or current member of SMPS or work in a firm that supports SMPS with a current member.
  • Will have made a great impact on their respective organizations and the profession.
